To Report or To Not Report?

Craig Pittman is a alumni of Troy University. It was named Troy State at the time he graduated from the University. He worked for the student paper called the "Tropolitan", which they later shortened to the "Trop". This is where he started his journey of being a journalist.

He was one that had no fear of reporting the truth. He wanted the truth to published even if that meant it was not what people wanted to hear. He wanted to publish stories that were real and important and what he thought that the students should know.

He was not afraid to push the boundaries when it came to report the truth. He gave a lot of examples of what he did and why he did what he did. He talked a lot about his time at Troy. He even said that the dean called him "the most destructive force on campus".

He came back to Troy to speak to us, communication and journalist majors, and he gave us a guideline to be basically the best journalist or communication majors. He wanted us to not be afraid of what to report, but to make sure what we report or talk about is true. He wanted us to make sure that there is some kind of proof.

He also said that we should know our audience. He expressed that the audience wants some kind of proof of what you report or publish. He said to find the paper trail. He gave the story that he covered or that his team covered of the school down in South Florida that the school bought a yacht and were using the boat for just pleasure. They founded that paper trail and reported about it.

He gave some great advice about what he learned at his time in Troy. He said that words matter to government, image is everything, and find the paper trial, the truth can make powerful people very angry, and if the grand jury calls then bring a friend. He talked about each point and how he learned what to do and what not to do.

The main point of this whole symposium is to tell people the truth. People deserve to know what is going on and why it is going on. It really hit home when he said to tell people the truth. Today, there is a lot of news reporters that won't report the truth. It may be a water down version of the truth, because they are afraid to push the boundaries.

This symposium has really opened up my eyes about whether or not the reporter is reporting the truth or are they just reporting what they are being told to report without any questions. As a young adult, I am starting to become aware of the different news outlets, papers, and social media, that do not report the real truth of what is going on in the world. I am finding it harder to believe a lot of the news outlets now days. I wish there were more reporters like Craig Pittman who are not afraid to report the clear-cut truth.
